How do I switch between Ask and Build?
TL;DR: On Home, open the Ask / Build menu on the composer and pick the other mode. If Ballet is still replying, the switch stops that reply first. Members cannot switch.
Who this is for
Editors and owners. Members stay in Ask.
Switch from the composer
- Open Home.
- Find the mode control on the composer. It shows Ask or Build.
- Open it and choose the other mode.
- Ask — Run playbooks and answer questions.
- Build — Plan and author playbooks.
- If a reply is still streaming, Ballet stops it, then continues in the mode you picked.
Your choice is saved in this browser.
If you do not see the menu
You stay in Ask for the whole session when any of these is true:
- Your role is Member
- You opened Ballet in the Chrome extension
- Someone is viewing the workspace in read-only mode
Ask an editor to create the playbook if you need a new workflow and cannot switch to Build.
Ask Ballet to switch
You can also say what you want in the chat.
- In Ask, a request to design, plan, or build a reusable playbook moves you to Build. Ballet confirms in one sentence and continues the same request there.
- In Build, ask to go back to running playbooks and Ballet returns you to Ask.
